How to Keep Your Teeth Plaque Free

Every time you pay a visit to the dentist and the dental hygienist, you get told to keep your teeth healthy and clean to get rid of the plaque that can buildup on them. But, what exactly is plaque, and how can you get rid of it? Plaque is like a sticky film that is stuck on your teeth. If it stays on your teeth for too long, it could eventually lead to tooth decay and make them weak. No one wants that, right? That is exactly why this list has been created, so keep on reading!

Visit Your Dentist

You may have heard this many times before, but it is true and an effective choice. Visiting your dentist may prevent any other dental issues as there are some areas in your mouth that are difficult to reach. By paying regular visits to your dentist, they can help you clean those areas, and they can even help you with some tips and techniques that you didn’t know of to take even better care of your teeth.

Brush Your Teeth

This is basically a part of everyone’s daily routine, but how often should you really brush your teeth? It is recommended to brush your teeth twice a day, in the morning and at night before you go to bed. This prevents the buildup of plaque and keeps your teeth healthy overall, as the food (plaque) stays on your teeth all night if you don’t!

Clean Between Teeth

Another point that your dentist always makes is to clean between your teeth. Why exactly? Because the plaque not only sits on your teeth, it can also hide in the spaces between your teeth. You can’t or can barely reach these spaces with your toothbrush, so it is recommended to floss your teeth at least once a day. If flossing seems a bit too hard for you, you can even use dental picks or small brushes that can fit between your teeth.

Less Sugar and Starch

Everyone has or has experienced having a sweet tooth. It may be very satisfying to consume sweets, chocolates, chips or any other sugary foods and beverages, but that only builds up the plaque in your mouth. Not only that, it may even lead to tooth decay and pains. No one wants to deal with that, right? So,  try not to consume it as often and your teeth won’t have to deal with all the bacteria.

If you’re looking for another option to prevent the buildup of plaque, then you might want to try mouthwash. It can help to loosen up the plaque on your teeth, which makes it easier to remove it. But, not all the types of mouthwash are suitable for everyone. So, be careful when choosing one. If the mouthwash that you have, dries your mouth, then that may not be the right one for you as that doesn’t prevent plaque buildup.
