Nature’s Warning Signs of Upcoming Disaster

When walking through the forest, look for J-shaped trees. Their twisted trunks may look unusually spectacular, but the warped woods serve nature as a warning sign of a possible landslide. Trees that bend into such odd shapes often indicate slow movement of the ground (or a landslide) beneath the surface, and while this may seem harmless, it can mean a landslide is rapidly approaching.

Danger is greatest in sloping forest areas, and while it’s tempting to explore, it’s best not to linger too long. Watch out for cracks and crevices in the surrounding ground – and definitely don’t climb a J-shaped tree, as the whole hill could collapse. On the next page, you’ll find even more of nature’s warning signs you need to know about.
